The Alcohol Related Problems And Alcohol Related Deaths That Are Linked To Heavy And Excessive Drinking And What Can Be Done About Alcohol Abuse And Alcohol Addiction In Our Country
How many individuals face major problems in their lives because they received a "driving under the influence" conviction? On an annual basis, how many alcoholics fail to get the professional alcohol treatment they need? How many junior high, high school, and college students lose their lives every year due to an alcohol overdose? How many individuals die each year from a condition that is totally preventable, such as alcohol poisoning? How many individuals get injured or lose their lives in alcohol related traffic accidents every year? How many people are the victims of alcohol related crime or violence each and every year? How many individuals lose their lives every year because of drinking problems? How many children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome? How many people's lives are cut short due to abusive and excessive drinking?
So what is the reason for asking these questions? Principally to highlight the devastating and destructive nature of excessive and unhealthy drinking. In fact, and based on the questions articulated above, it's a wonder why anyone would choose to drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner.
Stated another way, with the host of relationship issues, health problems, financial dilemmas, employment difficulties, and legal proceedings that are associated with chronic alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, why would any individual with common sense want to drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner? If truth be told when some of the above topics are put under the microscope more closely, excessive and unhealthy drinking becomes more illogical and makes even less sense.
Wouldn't you believe that heavy drinkers would be able to see some of the alcoholism symptoms that they exhibit? In a similar manner, doesn't it seem logical to think that many more chronic alcohol abusers would be able to perceive some of the alcoholism signs that they manifest? What is more, would you not think that individuals who are dependent on alcohol would attempt to learn more about their alcoholic symptoms by researching some basic alcohol-related facts, information, and statistics?
After reviewing the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse research literature, the point is so important that it needs to be stated again: With all of the damaging and unhealthy outcomes that are directly or indirectly correlated with continuous and repetitive alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, why would any person want to engage in unhealthy and abusive drinking?
What can be done about the widespread nature of alcoholism and alcohol abuse in the United States? First, society needs to get the message to more individuals about the debilitating and dangerous effects of abusive and unhealthy drinking. Second, individuals who are alcoholics or alcohol abusers need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask why they are not receiving the quality alcohol rehab they require.
Thirdly, our students need more meaningful and more relevant educational and preventative methods and approaches so that more students at all grade levels, including those who are at college, "get the word". And fourth, our students need to learn how to become problem solvers in life rather than gravitating to the "quick fix" and the "instant gratification" of a drug or alcohol abuse "high" or "buzz".
There's room for hope and optimism if individuals can start drinking in moderation and those who engage in hazardous and excessive drinking can become motivated to get the alcohol rehab they need. Indeed, why put your loved ones through suffering, pain, and turmoil because of your abusive and unhealthy drinking when you have the power to control your life by drinking in moderation or even refraining from drinking if you can't control your drinking?
