A Youth Decides To Schedule An Appointment With His Healthcare Professional About His Alcoholism Symptoms
Mitchell is a sixteen-year-old teen who has eventually made up his mind that he needs to go and see his family doctor about his careless drinking. At first, Mitchell thought he would be able to simply go on the Internet, look for some essential alcohol info and decide whether or not he was alcohol dependent.
Not surprisingly, he discovered a number of websites and blogs that outlined some of the common alcohol consumption problems. That's the positive news. The less than encouraging news, unfortunately, was that Mitchell displayed more than a few of these difficulties.
As a case in point, Mitchell has been drinking quite a bit more than usual and he has started to have more impassioned disagreements with his girlfriend. Additionally, for the first time in his young life he has been suffering through sleeping problems. In a similar manner, Mitchell often has felt depressed and on a growing basis he has been displaying poor concentration at school.
So Mitchell finally decided to make a phone call to his family doctor and make an appointment. When Mitchell arrived at the family doctor's office, he overtly told the physician about the apprehension he has about his abusive drinking behavior.
The family doctor told Mitchell that it was wise of him to deal with his problem drinking, he gave Mitchell a complete physical exam, and recommended that he talk to his Mother and Father about going into an out-patient alcohol treatment program that was managed by Doctor Devor, one of his doctor colleagues who is a drug and alcohol abuse specialist.
Additionally, when Mitchell articulated that he has been feeling a sense of melancholy more frequently, the family doctor told Mitchell that alcoholism and depression routinely crop up in the same individual. Consequently, the physician also suggested that Mitchell talk to his Mother and Father about seeking counseling to deal with his sense of gloom. In fact, Mitchell would be able to go to the local mental health center and make an appointment with Doctor Galloway, an eminent counseling psychologist who specializes in treating teenagers.
The physician made it a point to tell Mitchell that he might not necessarily be dependent on alcohol, but that he was clearly drinking in a hazardous manner. Stated another way, Mitchell was involving himself in teenage alcohol abuse.
The family doctor then told Mitchell that the reason he suggested alcohol rehab in the first place was because he wanted him to sort out his drinking problems, make sure that he stopped them from getting worse, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to fully abstain from drinking. In brief, by successfully treating his alcohol drinking problems, Mitchell would be able to get his abusive drinking under control and refrain from the negative cycle that could potentially result in addiction to alcohol.
Mitchell understandably did not look forward to facing his parents about his drinking issues and his depression. And he certainly did not want to face the thought of getting admitted into an alcohol rehabilitation program. And last but not least, he was not ecstatic about going to a counseling psychologist about his sense of gloom. Despite these apprehensions, however, Mitchell in point of fact experienced some emotional relief for the first time in many months because at last he gave up making excuses for himself and finally made up his mind to do something positive about his abusive drinking.
